The compact electric car segment in Australia is about to get another serious contender.

Chinese automaker GAC Group has confirmed local specifications and pricing for the new GAC AION UT, with the urban-focused EV priced from $31,990 (RRP) as order books officially open in Australia.

The AION UT becomes the fourth model in GAC’s Australian lineup and is positioned as an affordable, technology-focused electric hatch designed primarily for city driving.

With a 430km WLTP driving range, a 60kWh battery and a strong suite of safety technologies, the AION UT arrives as a direct competitor to vehicles such as the BYD Dolphin and the MG4.

Customer deliveries are expected to begin in Q2 2026.

AION UT Pricing in Australia

GAC will offer the AION UT locally in two trim levels, with the Luxury variant adding additional comfort and convenience features.

Despite its compact footprint, the UT aims to deliver generous interior space and strong equipment levels, particularly in the higher-spec Luxury grade.

Launch Pre-Order Offer

To support the Australian launch, GAC is offering a limited pre-order promotion for customers who secure a vehicle between 12 March and 9 April 2026.

Additionally, anyone who test drives a GAC vehicle during the promotion period will automatically be entered into a draw to win one of two AION UT vehicles.

430km Range From 60kWh Battery

The AION UT uses a 60kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed 430km driving range under the WLTP standard.

This places the new model competitively within Australia’s growing electric hatch segment, offering similar range figures to several larger and more expensive EVs.

The battery itself is GAC’s Magazine Battery 2.0, which the brand says has been engineered for improved safety and durability.

Interior Space and Technology

Despite its compact dimensions, the AION UT has been designed to maximise interior space for urban drivers.

GAC says the vehicle offers:

  • Impressive cabin packaging
  • A spacious rear seating area
  • A strong focus on modern safety technologies

The Luxury grade builds on the Premium specification with additional comfort features.

Luxury Features

  • Powered tailgate
  • Panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Ventilated driver’s seat

These features are uncommon in the compact EV segment at this price point.

Warranty and Ownership Support

Like the larger GAC AION V, the UT is backed by a comprehensive ownership package.

GAC says the UT will be available to test drive and order through its 19 Australian dealerships immediately.

A Growing Electric Hatch Market

The arrival of the AION UT highlights how competitive Australia’s sub-$40k electric vehicle segment is becoming.

Just a few years ago, EV buyers had limited options at this price point. Today, compact electric cars are emerging as one of the fastest growing categories.

The UT’s combination of range, equipment and introductory pricing positions it as a potential value-focused alternative for urban drivers looking to make the transition to electric mobility.

With deliveries beginning in the second quarter of 2026, the AION UT could quickly become one of the more affordable long-range EVs available to Australian buyers.
