XPENG Goes Direct: Chinese EV Brand Cuts Ties with True EV, Establishes Local Operations
XPENG has formally commenced operations in Australia through a new wholly owned subsidiary, XPENG Motors Australia Pty Ltd, appointing a local senior leadership team and beginning dealer recruitment across five states.
XPeng Inc. announced the launch of XPENG ANZ on 1 April 2026, establishing a direct factory-backed presence in the Australian market. The new entity will take full responsibility for building an authorised dealer network, customer support infrastructure, and after sales operations across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia.
The role of True EV, which had previously been associated with XPENG's Australian market presence, has not been addressed in the announcement. DriveWise will provide further updates as that situation becomes clearer.
Local leadership, global backing
XPENG ANZ is led by a local senior executive team with experience across major automotive brands in the Australian market. The company has emphasised this local expertise as central to building a sustainable business from the outset, with specific personnel expected to be named as the launch progresses.
The operation is backed by XPeng Inc.'s global technology and manufacturing resources. The parent company produces its vehicles in Guangzhou and currently operates across 60 markets worldwide. XPENG has positioned its core identity around AI-powered mobility software, with self-evolving, software-defined vehicles central to its product philosophy.
Dealer recruitment and infrastructure underway
Dealer recruitment is now active across all five target states, with XPENG seeking authorised premium dealer partners to represent the brand. Alongside the dealer network, the company is developing dedicated customer support, servicing, and after sales infrastructure under the XPENG ANZ structure, supported by factory-backed logistics being established within Australia.
XPENG has stated its intention to set a new benchmark for professional governance and financial transparency, with the goal of giving dealer and business partners a stable and confident foundation from which to operate.
What comes next
XPENG ANZ describes its Australian launch as the beginning of a long-term commitment to the market, with a focus on accelerating EV adoption through locally operated, AI-driven mobility solutions. The shape of the dealer network and the specifics of the leadership team are expected to become clearer in the months ahead.
DriveWise will continue to cover XPENG's Australian rollout as further details are confirmed.
