XPeng L03 Revealed: Self-Driving Capable Tesla Rival Confirmed for Australia
Written by Daniel Romero
What is the XPENG L03 and Where is it Sold
I was invited to attend the static preview launch of the new XPENG L03 SUV known as Xpeng Mona L03 in other markets in Beijing recently and came away genuinely impressed. This model feels far more thoughtfully styled than most in its class and has the potential to be one of the best looking and most attractive options for the price point. The L03 has been confirmed for Australia and is expected to arrive through factory-backed Xpeng dealers in late 2026 or early 2027.
What Makes The Design and Colour Choices Stand Out
Xpeng has used a clean flowing design language that gives the car a modern and cohesive appearance. The shape is smooth and aerodynamic with hidden door handles and slim lighting elements that run across the full width of the vehicle. The colour range is clearly aimed at younger buyers and offers fresh vibrant choices such as Phantom Purple, Rock Gray, Silver Frost, Midnight Black and Arctic White.
These shades help the model stand out from the usual neutral tones common in this segment. However, if I were to request anything from Xpeng through a humble request, it would be to add a vibrant blue and to add the stunning Stellar Red that is offered on the 2026 Xpeng P7 in China.
How Much Computing Power Does The L03 Have
Under the skin it brings serious computing power. It is fitted with three Turin chips delivering 2250 TOPS of onboard processing.
This supports smooth responsive driver assistance like Xpeng's FSD/Auto Pilot competitor to Tesla, which Xpeng indicates their intention to offer as an inclusion for self-driving capable cars like the L03 rather than the hefty subscription cost charged by Tesla which currently sits at $150 per month.
And if the recently updated G6 is anything to go by, Australian customers will benefit from unlimited data for mapping, plus unlimited OTA (over-the-air) updates throughout the 7 year/unlimited km warranty offered in Australia.
What are The Key Cabin Features and Sun Protection
One of the most striking cabin features is the new 26.8 inch extra large W-HUD display. It delivers crisp clear images even under bright sunlight. With a high contrast ratio of 1200 to 1 and peak brightness of 12000 nits it remains fully legible no matter how strong the sun is. It also integrates reverse camera feed and blind spot view assistance so key information stays right in your line of sight.
Another standout feature is the large panoramic roof. It uses a dual layer silver coating combined with a Low E interlayer to deliver exceptional protection from the sun. It blocks more than 99.9 percent of UV rays and stops over 97 percent of visible light from passing through. This keeps the cabin cooler and reduces glare even on the hottest days.
How Much Space and Storage Does The L03 Offer

Space and storage have been carefully planned. Interior length reaches 1000mm. Rear knee room measures 67mm while the distance between front and rear rows stretches to 911mm. Front to rear row spacing sits at 839mm. Rear shoulder room comes in at 1418mm and rear elbow room is 1384mm. Those in the back get 1451mm of width and can enjoy a 5 degree recline angle for extra comfort. The rear bench has a 60/40 split so you can fold either side independently to balance passenger space and cargo capacity.
There is also a handy hidden storage compartment under the rear left seat perfect for keeping smaller items secure and out of sight. Additional storage includes generous areas in the front and rear plus a practical pegboard system on the side panels. This allows you to attach carabiners and organise gear in many different ways.
